More about the Zugspitz Arena

The Zugspitze

At 2,962m, the Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany. Situated in the Wetterstein mountains between Austria and Germany, the Zugspitze is easily reached with the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn cable car from Ehrwald. In 1926, the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn was the first cable car to the Zugspitze summit, although now there are three with the later additions of the Eibsee cable car from Grainau and the Gletscherbahn. The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn’s modern panoramic cabins take you to the Zugspitze’s summit in comfort and ease. When you arrive at the top, marvel at the spectacular view over the valley towards Lermoos, Ehrwald, Biberwier, Lake Eibsee and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Pure peak pleasure.

Rating: Breathtaking

Located in the heart of the Alps with no other similarly tall mountain to compete with it or obstruct sight lines, the Zugspitze offers almost incomparable views. From the panoramic terrace you can look far beyond the main chain of the Alps, all the way to the Grossglockner and Piz Bernina.

There are restaurants, observation decks, sun terraces and even a museum close to the panoramic terrace. The Zugspitze – probably the most spectacular starting point for hikes and climbs.
