Castle Ehrenberg - a testimony of time

When powder snow crunches underfoot and the winter sun lights up the old walls, a trip to the Ehrenberg Klause, the Ehrenberg castle ruins, the fortress on Schlosskopf and Fort Claudia becomes a special experience.

Zugspitze
At 2,962 metres, the Zugspitze is the highest peak in Germany and a true highlight. It lies southwest of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, directly on the border with Austria.
Worth seeing is the summit museum with fascinating info about the Zugspitzbahn, Eibsee cog railway and the first ascent, and the viewing platform with a 360-degree panorama and four-country view – up to 200 kilometres visibility on clear days.
Partnachklamm near Garmisch-Partenkirchen

The impressive Partnachklamm near Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about 700 metres long, with rock walls up to 80 metres high.
Through tunnels and shafts, the gorge is also accessible in winter – then bizarre ice formations provide an especially spectacular experience.
A highlight is the iron bridge from 1914, which runs 68 metres above the Partnach.
Lechfall – Füssen – Royal Castles
After about 40 kilometres drive towards Füssen, you’ll reach a small parking lot at Ziegelwies. From there, you can see the rock face with the image of King Maximilian II, the father of Ludwig II.
A short path takes you down to the bridge over the impressive Lechfall.
Our insider tip: Cross the bridge and discover the Ostallgäu circular trail – a beautiful walking path to Füssen. Along the way, a small Roman monument awaits you.
Kloster Ettal

Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castles

Only about 5 kilometres after Füssen you’ll reach the village of Schwangau. High above the village, on the right in the forest, Hohenschwangau Castle shines – the former residence of the royal family. It lies directly opposite the famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
Just follow the signs to the Neuschwanstein Castle car park – from there you can easily reach both castles.
Geisterklamm – Leutasch
The Leutascher Geisterklamm is a real adventure for big and small explorers. Narrow walkways lead through impressive gorges and past roaring waterfalls, while everything revolves around stories of ghosts, goblins and nature spirits.
The gorge is open daily from May to the end of October. Entrance to the Ghost Gorge is free, for the waterfall trail there is a small fee of 3€ for adults and 1€ for children. For a cosy break, the Leutascher Klammstüberl, the Gletscherschliff or the kiosk at the waterfall trail are perfect.
Film Set Village “Flake”

Five original huts from the “Wickie and the Strong Men” films by Michael Bully Herbig were rebuilt at Lake Walchensee. They were also used again for “Wickie on a Great Journey.”
Information boards and guided tours in the summer season bring the Viking village to life for young and old explorers.

Castle Herrenchiemsee

On the largest island of Lake Chiemsee, Herrenchiemsee, King Ludwig II began building the New Herrenchiemsee Palace in 1878, modelled after Versailles.
It was his last major construction project but remained unfinished after his death in 1886.
